2018 Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour Returns to the UK & Ireland Bigger and Better

STORY BY Megan Hughes 30th November 2017

The Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour is returning for 2018, with more shows and venues than ever before across the UK and Ireland.

With two different programmes of short adventure films to choose from, the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour follows today’s up-and-coming explorers as they embark on mind-blowing journeys in the most remote and spectacular corners of the globe. Audiences can expect amazing cinematography, stunning scenery, some hair-raising moments and a lot of laughs.

Tour Director Nell Teasdale says “We guarantee the tour will inspire viewers to start planning their own outdoor adventures too!”

The UK and Ireland tour will be a part of the wider Banff World Tour, which travels the globe annually, visiting nearly 50 countries and reaching more than 400,000 people worldwide. In 2018, they are expanding their UK and Ireland arm to bring an adrenaline-packed selection of films to almost 60 venues throughout the UK and Ireland between January and May.

“This is the first time we’ve topped 100 shows in the UK and Ireland, which is really exciting!” says Tour Director Nell Teasdale. “UK and Irish audiences have a huge passion for adventure, so we’re delighted to be able to share these amazing films and their intrepid characters with wider audiences and even more venues.”

The screenings are sure to foster a great sense of community, bringing together outdoor enthusiasts who share similar passions and interests. Not to mention, there are free prize draws at every screening too! What more could you want?!

Our highlights of the lineup thus far include Frozen Road, a film following Yorkshireman Ben Page as he embarks on a solo bikepacking journey in the Canadian Arctic. His journey takes him from romantic visions of perfect solitude to a contemplation of what it truly means to travel alone in such a great emptiness.

Indeed, strength lies in numbers in Dreamwalkers – The Faroes Project, as four Dutch friends attempt to become the first people to highline in the desolate, wild and windy Faroe Islands. In such conditions, this is a feat that is nowhere near simple.

Twin Galaxies – A Greenland Epic also demonstrates the power of the wilderness as it follows three adventurers on an extreme mission in Greenland. Using kite skis, they tow their white-water kayaks 1,000km over the Greenland Ice Cap to the northernmost river ever paddled and from here, the challenge gets even tougher. With spectacular cinematography, an incredible depiction of the remote wilderness and a large amount of suffering, this film truly demonstrates what it’s like to be far out of your comfort zone.

The full lineup will be revealed soon, so be sure to keep your eyes peeled on www.banff-uk.com. The UK & Ireland 2018 tour begins in Edinburgh on 13 January and takes in a multitude of destinations including London, Bristol, Cardiff, Birmingham and Liverpool before ending in Newtonabbey on the 19th May.
