Black Diamond Clean Up The Mountains

STORY BY Patrick 14th April 2017

The Black Diamond team – athletes and employees – will be in Fountainbleau area of France this long Easter weekend helping to ensure the area is kept pristine.

Every year at Easter there are an estimated 10,000 climbers and other visitors hanging out at the sandstone area of bouldering blocks in the forest around Fontainebleau.

‘The Rock Project’ from Black Diamond staged over this period encourages a responsible approach to nature and rock.

“The forest offers lots of space and rock and the goal is to preserve this playground for the next generations. Climbing in Fontainebleau has been popular since the late 19th century, and still there are more boulders to be discovered,” said a company spokesperson.

It is the 6th time that Black Diamond has organised its clean-up operation “Chasin-the-Rubbish” in Fontainebleau during Easter time.

“Often people – new to climbing – from the indoor climbing facilities simply do not know about the right behaviour,” the company spokesperson continued, “Therefore, Black Diamond informs and gives a helping hand with some easy rules while climbing outside – climb only with clean climbing shoes (sand on the soles polishes rock) – don’t use too much chalk – don’t leave tickmarks behind – stay on the marked tracks (risk of erosion) – don’t leave behind rubbish (especially no toilet paper) – and don’t make a fire.”
