I’ve just been sent this Diamondback Ranger electric full suspension mountain bike to review. Only ridden it for a quick 20 mins back from town but its super easy to handle and think am going to enjoy this a lot.
Check out the info below and i’ll start a series of reviews later this week.
They say….It’s time to hit the hills and read the riot act on the latest full suspension eMTB from Diamondback, the Ranger. Built for speed up and down hill, this bike is packed with the latest technology. The Ranger is one of the first bikes to use the Shimano E8000 eMTB specific drive system. This premium end set-up brings serious off-road credentials, with more torque and a gear range suited to steep terrain. The E8000 is more compact that most motors on the market meaning that the Ranger has a shorter chainstay making the bike handling tighter in the twists and turns. It’s also slimmer than other motors, with the cranks closer together making this out and out eMTB feel more like an MTB. The 504Wh battery pack is integrated into the frame and provides enough power to electrify up to 80km of pure excitement and adrenalin.
The top end 3.0 puts the Shimano Di2 XT shifting system to good use with precise, rapid gear shifts on the 1×11 drivetrain.
The rear suspension brings Diamondback’s level-link design to eMTBs after it debuted on the Release [in the US] last year. Making the rear end compact, this design coupled with the E8000 keeps this bike shorter by 30mm than typical eMTBs adding a more ‘throw around’ feeling to the set up. With 140mm of travel in there’s more than enough to handle the hardest hits. All three Ranger specifications use the Rockshox Monarch R Debonair shock absorber on the rear suspension with the Ranger 2.0 and 3.0 using the Rockshox Yaric RC and the 1.0 the Sektor Silver, all offering 140mm travel.
Boost spacing brings trademark stiffness and ride improvements to the 27 inch wheels and the plus sized WTB Ranger tyres give monster truck grip. The brakes are Shimano M-315 Hydraulic disc brakes with plenty of power to give the rider the confidence to push this bike to the limit.
Diamondback’s UK man in the know, Jason Boness, has been putting the Ranger through its paces since the first bikes rolled off the production line, he commented
“This is the first eMTB I’ve ridden with the new Shimano E8000 STEPS eMTB drive system, which delivers a maximum 70nm of torque, in eMTB terms this is supercar power. The level-link suspension made even the roughest ride feel plush and the lightning fast changes delivered by the Shimano Di2 are a joy to behold: instantaneous powerful gear shifts every time. The Ranger is the real deal and is a serious machine at a great price so is a sure fire best seller”
