You Don’t Have To Climb Zagreb’s Mountain To See It From Above

STORY BY Patrick 18th April 2017

Most of the one million plus visitors who came to Zagreb in Croatia last year explored on foot or by other “ground” methods. Segway tours, cycle tours, horse drawn carriages in summer and the famous blue trams are all the usual modes of travel.

Zagreb’s very own mountain, Medvednica, is easily reached by local tram and cable car. The highest peak is 1035 metres at Sljeme from where there are fabulous views.

Yet there are many ways to see this fantastic city as the birds do – from above. Take a look:

DINNER IN THE SKY

The amazing “flying kitchen” first came to Zagreb in 2014 and is now back between 22-26 June. An eclectic restaurant is suspended by special equipment some 50 metres above Zagreb and top chefs from across Croatia prepare special menus for a maximum of 22 diners.

HOT AIR BALLOON

Glide above Zagreb in a hot air balloon. Balloon Club Zagreb collects you from your hotel and transports you to the launch site; flights are usually in early morning or early evening for best weather conditions.  The flight lasts two to three hours, includes a champagne breakfast or brunch (on land) and a handwritten, personalised certificate of flight.

PANORAMA FLIGHTS

Sweep across the capital in a light aircraft. There is a choice of shorter flights above the city centre or beyond to include the surrounding countryside of Zagreb with its famous castles and vineyards.

PARACHUTE FREE FALL

Not for the nervous and led by highly skilled professionals, this is a chance to parachute down to Zagreb from above!

ZAGREB EYE

This landmark skyscraper is from the architecture of Zagreb’s Sixties and located by the main square. Take the lift up for fantastic panoramic views and enjoy coffee, a cocktail or a glass of wine. Food is served, binoculars are available and the place is loved by photographers since it provides superb opportunities to capture Zagreb from different elevated angles.
