Road cycling, mountain biking and electric bikes in Savoie Mont-Blanc

STORY BY Emmanuelle 26th April 2019

Mountain biking, which was initially just offered as an alternative to hiking, has become a true asset of the mountains of Savoie Mont Blanc during the summer season.

New For Summer 2019

Col de la Loze (2,305m) is a mountain pass that links Courchevel to Méribel. From summer 2019, it will become a mountain cycle track – the highest in Europe. Cyclists will be able to enjoy the panoramic views in peace, as no motorised vehicles are allowed on it.

It will be the first pass in France to be cleared of snow and will open on 12 May.

Véloroute 63, a new cycle touring itinerary, is now complete. It starts in Chanaz, at the end of the Bourget Lake, and goes as far as Valence. The track goes along the lake, then crosses the pretty centre of Chambéry, before taking you through the hilly vineyards of Savoie. It then heads to Grenoble before arriving in Valence.

Voie Verte du Grand Genève is a 12km cycle track that crosses six small towns from Geneva to Bonne (Gaillard, Ambilly, Annemasse, Vétraz-Monthoux, Cranves-Sales and Bonne). The cycle track will soon be extended to Chamonix.

Events

From 14 to 16 June, La Clusaz hosts the Alps Bike Festival, the must-go festival for mountain bikers. Participants can take part in Enduro and cross-country races. There are also events for children, various forms of entertainment, concerts and local food tastings.
