Tech Meets Easy-to-Wear in Parajumpers 2017 Collection

STORY BY Emmanuelle 23rd June 2017

In the eternal quest for functional outdoor wear, Parajumpers has a remarkable pedigree. It was born in Italy in 2006, having been inspired by a meeting between designer Massimo Rossetti and a serving member of the 210th Rescue Squadron, better known as “The PJs” (short for Parajumpers), in a bar in Anchorage, Alaska.

The PJs are highly trained for extreme rescues and recoveries in the wildest, most remote and hostile corners of the globe so were the ideal inspiration for Massimo Rossetti’s designs.

The result, produced by the long-established Italian company Ape S.P.A., is an extremely innovative outerwear collection with highly technological components, designed above all else to be functional.

Parajumpers’ signature jackets, for example, are made of hard-wearing nylon and come with a removable down-padded lining and a fur-trimmed hood. The collar fastens with a hook used in parachuting. On the front lies a large, zippable, multi-cargo pocket containing further pockets designed for carrying accessories, such as ipods, GPS devices, mobile phones and so on.

This spring and summer “All Things Tech” meets “Easy-to-Wear” in Parajumpers’ latest collection, which reflects the synergy of Massimo Rossetti’s expertise in active sportswear and outerwear with his Italian design sensibility.

As usual the full collection is available to view via parajumpers.it/en/ with free worldwide shipping.

Conceived in Parajumpers’ very own Veneto-based atelier, which has a rich craftsmanship tradition of sourcing quality materials and developing luxury outerwear, each collection of the Italian heritage brand epitomises technical functionality and contemporary sophistication.

For Spring/Summer 2017, the concept of high-tech wear and the idea of casual wear become one and bring Parajumpers’ classic silhouettes and best-sellers to the next level. In this context, Parajumpers’ design team offers a more accentuated and versatile combination of technical vocation and modulated style through a masculine and feminine collection in which technical features merge and juxtapose themselves with sophistication.

To emphasise this design fusion, Massimo Rossetti, the brand’s creative director, once again teamed up with his long-time collaborators, the Japanese designer Yoshinori Ono and the Italian designer Gionata Malagodi, in order to create nine capsule collections that are both functional and stylish.

In line with the former capsules the new collection continues to pay homage to the company’s 50-year-old expertise with exceptional wardrobe staples that transcend time. To achieve this impeccable quality and epitomise the brand’s clear-cut heritage craftsmanship, Parajumpers always sources its premium materials from ethical and renowned international manufacturers, while keeping technical functionality and contemporary sophistication in mind.

This time around, highlights from the Spring/Summer 2017 collection include men’s and women’s wear outfits, the Kegen range designed by Yoshinori Ono. To achieve a flawless look and functionality, the designer fused tech elements with boundary-pushing features, such as the extremely light, three-layer micro ripstop with its slight stretch and crinkle effect. The taped seams and waterproof zippers make these garments completely waterproof.

Gionata Malagodi, for his part, introduces his latest take on the Airship series, a capsule for both men and women, which features three jackets inspired by the air force world that has always influenced Parajumpers’ outstanding outerwear designs. The fabric, a “technological” cotton, combines high performance in water and air protection with a comfortable hand feel and fashionable silhouettes.
Further highlights from the new Spring/Summer 2017 collection include the Rain, Soft Shell and Windbreaker capsules that are all built to face bad weatherhttp://www.parajumpers.it/en/ days, while looking appealing and stylish. This time around, the Windbreaker is enriched with a water-resistant, yarn-dyed nylon micro ripstop that has been additionally over-dyed. The crinkle effect and the paper touch make for a true eye-catcher.

Both the Soft Shell and the Rain capsules, for their part, epitomise the quality of Parajumpers’ premium tech constructions and choice of materials. Created and engineered by Massimo Rossetti, the Rain capsule is crafted from a waterproof stretch- nylon micro ripstop with an extra durable water-repellent treatment and printed hydrophilic milky dot lamination – the result is an extremely light waterproof jacket that will come in handy in case of sudden summer showers.

The Soft Shell capsule, for its part, provides just the right protection from wet weather, thanks to its stretch polyester knit that is coated with a water-resistant treatment and finished with a bonded lamination. In addition, Parajumpers offers a range of “easy-to-wear” capsule collections, namely the Easywear, the Day Tripper, the Double Jersey and the Special Edition.

While the sporty and comfortable silhouettes of the Easywear capsule are a nod to the former tech-savvy capsules – think light stretch- nylon micro ripstop with water-resistant treatment and polyester padding – the Day Tripper capsule brings comfort to the next level, by introducing super-lightweight down-filled jackets that are internally coated and windproof.

Finally, the Double Jersey and the Special Edition will make a lasting impression with their extreme softness and sophisticated styles. The latter stands out for its traditional styles – such as the Parajumpers Brigadier bomber jacket – which are renewed with design fabrics, including a chintz-finished twill that is combined with an extremely soft, pierced, waxed lambskin leather.

The former capsule collection, for its part, plays with a beautiful yarn-dyed bonded jersey in fleece optic that makes for a sophisticated yet very wearable garment, with a truly unique Parajumpers look.

Pushing boundaries as always, Parajumpers has once again challenged the traditional codes of outerwear luxury with outstanding tech updates in order to create premium apparel designed to last, for men and women who will only settle for the best style and quality.

Whether it be ships adrift at sea, rock climbers stuck atop a 4,000-metre peak, or submariners sunk at unimaginable depths, the PJs are called to intervene. Tough and courageous, they are better trained than any other military corps, but most importantly, they use their skills and techniques to save lives. Their motto is “That Others May Live”.
