Base Jumping in the Scottish Highlands

STORY BY Patrick 1st March 2019

Tim Howell, an Afghanistan combat veteran, skier and BASE jumper has been pushing his limits this winter in completing a series of never-jumped BASE exits in the Scottish Highlands.

Howell, sponsored by British mountain clothing brand Jöttnar, jumped from a range of locations including the the Storr cliffs on the Isle of Skye, the north face of Ben Nevis, the Steall Waterfall in Glen Nevis and The Cobbler in the Arrochar mountains.

Taking the hard way up and fast way down, Howell’s passion for BASE jumping has spanned over six years and taken in various famous landmarks around the world including Table Top Mountain in Cape Town, Half Dome in Yosemite, Trident du Tacul on Mont Blanc and the Grand Canyon in the USA.

Howell became the first British person to complete a ski BASE jump, launching off the iconic Buachaille Etive Mor in Glencoe last winter, and is pursuing his ambition to becoming the first person to climb and jump all of the ‘classic’ six North Faces of the Alps.
