Bracken’s Big Climb for Born Free!

STORY BY Patrick 26th April 2017

Adventurous Bracken Henderson, nine, is aiming high with a daring challenge in aid of the Born Free Foundation.

Bracken, who lives in Basingstoke and attends Priory Primary School in Tadley, has set her sights on scaling Wales’ highest peak – Mount Snowdon – to raise money for the international wildlife charity, which works to protect endangered and vulnerable animals all over the world.

Gearing up for the walk in June, which she will complete with mum Louise and nanny Anne Webb, Bracken explains: “I love animals because they are cute and they deserve a better life. Last year mummy and I did a 12 mile walk for Born Free, and we raised £200, so I wanted to do something even bigger this year!”

“My favourite animal is the Lioness, because they are strong, fast, beautiful and brave. I want to work with Born Free when I am older and save the Lions, I am saving up my pocket money to buy equipment and toys for the other animals.”

Mum Louise says: “I am immensely proud of Bracken, She is animal crazy and her favourite animal charity is Born Free – she wants to work for them when she grows up, with the intention of saving all the lions. She has such a big heart and loves all living things, she wants to make a difference in the world for animals.”

“Bracken comes up with what challenge she wants to do next and I support her 100%. She is very excited for her next challenge and wears her Born Free top on our training walks proudly! I am a very lucky mummy to have such a wonderful daughter.

The trio have started doing training walks in the local area, and hope to reach their fundraising target of £1,000 before the big day in June.

The Born Free Foundation is a dynamic international wildlife charity, devoted to compassionate conservation and animal welfare. Born Free takes action worldwide to protect threatened species and stop individual animal suffering. Born Free believes wildlife belongs in the wild and works to phase out zoos. We rescue animals from lives of misery in tiny cages and give them lifetime care.
