New French Mountain Festival Will Try To Break Slacklining World Record

French mountain resort Les 2 Alpes has announced it is organising a new Outdoor Festival this summer.

Running from Thursday 22 to Sunday 25 June, visitors to the Festival will be able to watch and to try out many outdoor activities – including mountain biking, trail running and slacklining in a friendly and festive atmosphere.

The world’s best slackliners will be in Les 2 Alpes to show off their slacklining skills, walking along a suspended length of flat webbing that is stretched between two points.

There are several types of lines: a slackline is above the ground, a waterline is above water, a highline is stretched between two high points, and a jumpline is for doing acrobatics above the ground. For all types of lines, you need very good balance!

Pros and beginners will be able to practise in different parts of Les 2 Alpes. There will be a waterline above Buissonière Lake, a highline at 2,600m, as well as one on the glacier at 3,400m, close to the Skywalk, and a slackline above a mattress for beginners.

Les 2 Alpes will try to break the highline world record with a 2km line above the resort, suspended between Les Crêtes and Vallées Blanche, both at 2,100m.

Mountain bikers can explore 100km of tracks by day and by night during the festival.

Mountain bikers can take part in MTB Team Up competitions, which include enduro races and DH in teams of three. On Friday 23 June, the bike park will open in the evening for the MTB Moon Party.

Visitors can also take part in three different trail running competitions. The Lactique Hot Trail will be on Saturday, a 1,500m race with a vertical climb of 500m. On Sunday there will be two races: the Trail de la Fée, which is 15km long with a vertical climb of 1,000m, and the 3600 Summit Trail, for experts only, as it covers 35km and has a vertical ascent of 2,750m.

Other attractions will include the Course de Ouf, an obstacle race that can be done solo or by teams of two runners. There will be three different races, three age categories, and a choice of three distances: 5, 7 or 11km. This fun race will take place on Saturday 24 June.

The Paragliding Pre World Cup will also take place in Les 2 Alpes from 22 to 25 June. Between 80 and 100 professionals will fly at the same time to give an incredible show.

Golf. Les 2 Alpes has a 9-hole golf course. Visitors can try this beautiful mountain course, as well as take part in street golf in teams of two players.

There will also be an exhibitor area where outdoor brands will display their latest products. Yoga and Zumba classes will take place.

Taking part in all those activities – or watching them – will make you hungry, so the resort will organise big outdoor picnics every day.

Visitors can buy a pass for the weekend (Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 June) for €45. The pass provides access to all the activities and competitions.
