Whether you’re a beginner hiker, weekend adventurer, or someone who just enjoys a scenic stroll, having the right walking gear is essential. Recently, I had the opportunity to test out a variety of walking gear and found a few standout products that every outdoor lover should consider adding to their kit. Here’s my review, with insights from personal experiences.
RRP £318

Investing in a great pair of walking boots is non-negotiable for a comfortable and safe hike. I recently tried the Hanwag Makra Lady GTX boots on a weekend trek in the Lake District. These boots provided incredible ankle support and gripped well even on loose, rocky trails. What surprised me was how lightweight they felt after miles of walking. My feet stayed dry in unexpected showers, thanks to the waterproof Gore-Tex lining. For anyone debating a purchase, these are worth every penny.
RRP £25

Don’t underestimate the value of great socks! I wore the Smartwool PhD Outdoor Socks. Made with merino wool, these socks were like a second skin. They kept my feet warm, dry, and blister-free—even after an intense 10km hike. Plus, they stayed fresh despite hours of use (yes, merino wool really works wonders!).

Weather in the UK is unpredictable, which is why I tested the Craghoppers Kiwi Pro Stretch Walking Trousers. These trousers offered flexibility and an impressive water-repellent finish, saving me from a sudden drizzle. The multiple zip pockets were also handy for storing essentials like energy bars and a phone.
RRP £65

The trick to surviving Britain’s varying climate is effective layering. My favourite mid-layer is the Rab Nexus Pull-On Fleece. It offered both warmth and breathability. It’s lightweight enough to fit in your backpack when things warm up but cosy enough for more wintry days.
I also recommend the Osprey Talon 22 Backpack, which fit comfortably for hours thanks to its ergonomic design. It’s roomy enough to store all your day hike essentials, including snacks, sunscreen, and a trusty reusable water bottle.
RRP £125

These products aren’t just durable and functional; they’ve been meticulously designed for outdoor enthusiasts. Unlike cheaper alternatives, the items I tested performed exceptionally in real-world conditions, proving that investing in quality gear can make all the difference.
If you’re looking to take your hiking experience to the next level, I’d recommend giving these items a try.
