Cairngorm Mountain Summer Holidays: Funicular, Mountain Biking, Tubing And Family Savings

STORY BY Debbie 14th July 2026

Cairngorm Mountain has launched into the summer holidays with extended opening hours, extra activity sessions and family savings across some of its most popular mountain experiences.

Best known to many visitors as one of Scotland’s leading winter destinations, Cairngorm Mountain has plenty to offer once the snow has gone too. Summer brings long Highland days, big views across the Cairngorms National Park and a lively mix of outdoor activities, from scenic funicular rides and mountain biking to tubing, walks, family play and gravity-fuelled Mountain Carting.

The resort has extended its opening hours for the school holiday period, giving families and day visitors more time on the hill. The Funicular Railway and Ptarmigan Top Station are open until 5pm, with the last public train departing at 4pm. It is one of the easiest ways to enjoy Cairngorm’s high mountain scenery, particularly for families, less mobile visitors or anyone who wants to take in the views without heading out on a full mountain walk.

Mountain biking is also running later through the day, with funicular uplift available until 4.15pm, upper trails open until 5pm, and lower trails plus Magic Carpet uplift continuing until 5.30pm. The Adventure Play Park is open until 5.30pm, while the Cairngorm Café is serving drinks, cakes and snacks until the same time, giving visitors a relaxed place to refuel after activities or sit out in the sunshine with a cold drink.

There is more for thrill-seekers too. Cairngorm Mountain is adding an extra afternoon Mountain Carting session every day through to the end of August, giving visitors more chances to try one of the resort’s most exciting summer activities. The experience is suitable for ages 14+ and combines a mountain railway journey with a guided descent by cart through the ski area.

Families can also take advantage of Cairngorm’s Great British Summer Savings offer. The resort says it is passing on the temporary VAT reduction for eligible family activities from 25 June to 1 September 2026, with savings applying to Tubing Slides, the Adventure Play Park and children’s meals at its food and beverage outlets across the resort.

For those who want to turn a day out into a short Highland break, the Cairngorm Motorhome Stopover is open from 1 May to 31 October 2026. Located at Coire na Ciste, the site gives motorhome and campervan visitors a secure overnight base close to Cairngorm Mountain’s activities, with panoramic views across one of the most dramatic corners of the national park.

The stopover is designed for motorhomes and campervans with onboard toilets, with water and waste facilities on site. It offers a practical option for visitors who want to explore the mountain by day, enjoy the quieter evening atmosphere and wake up close to the trails, views and visitor facilities.

With family-friendly activities, high-mountain scenery, biking, tubing, food, walking routes, and overnight options, Cairngorm is making a strong case for a longer summer stay in the Highlands. For those who usually think of the resort only when winter returns, this is a good reminder that the mountain has a very different, but equally rewarding, summer rhythm.

Visitors are advised to check the latest Cairngorm Mountain opening times and book activities online before travelling, particularly during busy holiday periods.
