A reliable waterproof shell is one of the most essential parts to any outdoor kit, but it can be tricky fine tuning whether to go for something substantial or lighter but functional for all-weather protection. Having recently tested the Aeroshell Lightweight Waterproof Jacket from Keela Outdoors, I’m genuinely impressed by how much performance this lightweight package delivers.
Keela is a Scottish heritage brand with a strong reputation for producing high-performance outdoor and tactical clothing designed to perform in demanding conditions. Its gear is trusted by mountain rescue teams, tactical units and outdoor professionals, so expectations were high before I even put the Aeroshell on.
Thankfully, it doesn’t disappoint. The first thing I noticed was how incredibly light and packable it is. It stuffs easily into a rucksack and takes up very little space, making it ideal for carrying on hikes, cycling trips or mountain days when the forecast looks uncertain.

Despite its featherweight feel, protection is excellent. Constructed from Keela’s FlyLite Dri fabric, the Aeroshell is waterproof, windproof and highly breathable, which proved particularly valuable during fast-paced walks where I was generating plenty of heat. Rather than feeling clammy or restrictive, the jacket remained comfortable throughout, effectively balancing weather protection with ventilation.
The Active Fit works well for movement, while practical details such as the adjustable hood, cuffs and hem help seal out wind and rain when conditions deteriorate. The water-resistant zips and zipped hand pockets add to the jacket’s all-weather credentials without unnecessary bulk.
What impressed me most is its versatility. Whether you’re heading for the hills, cycling through a rain shower, tackling a trail run or simply preparing for a wet and windy winter commute, the Aeroshell feels ready for the challenge.
For me, this is exactly what a modern waterproof shell should be: lightweight, highly packable, comfortable to wear and dependable when the weather turns against you. At £129.95, it’s an outstanding all-round performer that punches well above its weight.
