Vertical Journey: discovering new climbing routes

Route setting is the hidden part of climbing. Why setters go look for new routes, what drives them to spend hours, days, weeks, to bolt new lines for everyone to enjoy?

I followed a route setter in his discovery and exploration of a new climbing spot. The opening of the crag was supported by PETZL and culminated in a competition during the Frasassi Climbing Festival 2016. A new routed titled “Cadono gli dei” (Italian for “The Gods are falling”, with grade still TBC around 8a) was chosen as a contest route, with prizes for the first female and male climber.
