World Mountainboard Championships 2017 Heading to France

STORY BY Patrick 14th March 2017

The 2017 Mountainboard World Championships will be held in Venette, France (an hour away from Paris) from July 13th to the 16th.

Full details of the event are yet to be released but the organisers promise the Championships will include both Boardercross and Freestyle competitions.

The first known mountain board was patented in 1989 and mountain boarding, also known as dirt boarding, off-road boarding, and all-terrain boarding (ATB), is a well established if little-known action sport, derived from snowboarding. A mountain board is made up of components including a deck, bindings to secure the rider to the deck, four wheels with pneumatic tires, and two steering mechanisms known as trucks.

Mountain boarders, also known as riders, ride specifically designed boardercross tracks, slopestyle parks, grass hills, woodlands, gravel tracks, BMX courses, mountain bike trails and down the slopes of ski resorts in the summer. It is this ability to ride such a variety of terrain that makes mountain boarding different from other board sports.

It’s possible to learn mountain boarding at locations in the UK and further afield including at The Mountain Boarding Centre (MBC), (pictured top), which is designed to accommodate a variety of mountain boarding disciplines such as freestyle, boarder-cross and free-riding at all levels of competence. The different runs are colour coded according to their difficulty.

The UK will also see the return of the popular national championships six weeks later featuring BoarderX, Downhill and Freestyle contests.

The UK Championship 2017 will be at Hereford Board and Bike Park on 26th, 27th and 28th August.
