The 2018 IFSC Climbing World Championships will return to Innsbruck, and to mark the event a new climbing centre has been built in the city.
Innsbruck hosted the event, widely regarded as the pinnacle of the climbing calendar, in 1993 and is thrilled to have it returning in 2018. The city has also played host this year to the 2017 IFSC Youth Climbing World Championships, where the brand-new Innsbruck Climbing Centre was first opened for use.
Around 750 athletes coming from 70 different nations will be competing for their countries in the 2018 Championships. They will compete in various disciplines including bouldering, speed, lead and paraclimbing, with world champions crowned in each. The theme of 2018’s event will be “Make friends. Climb. Celebrate.”
The Championships will take place at the brand-new Innsbruck Climbing Centre, located at Sillufer, as well as at Innsbruck Olympia World.
The 2018 IFSC Climbing World Championships will be held from the 6th – 16th September and are expected to attract around 40,000 spectators from across the globe. The Championships will also be broadcast to audiences around the world.
