The Ötztaler Cycle Marathon in the Austrian Tirol is and remains the measure of all things! The official registration period for the classic cycling marathon at the heart of the Alps ran throughout January and never before so many cycling fans have registered.
This year 25,198 requests to participate from cyclists from 50 countries were received to compete in the 227 kilometre long marathon myth covering 5,500 altitude meters. In the end only 4,226 cyclists will be selected to race in the official raffle in mid-February.
Every single cyclist has to conquer the four high alpine passes of Kühtai, Brenner pass, Jaufen pass and finally the 29 kilometer long ascent to Timmelsjoch before reaching the finish line, cheered by many spectators in Sölden, Ötztal valley.
“The majority of registrations again came from Germany, but we have received requests from all parts of the world and from more countries than ever before. This is proof enough that the legend of the Ötztaler Cycle Marathon is unbroken. We are also constantly introducing innovations in order to create an even more impressive experience for all cycling fans,” states Dominic Kuen, head of the organizing committee.
The organizing team is also pleased to announce a new main sponsor. “As one of the world’s leading manufacturers of performance bikes and innovative bicycle technology, Specialized embodies everything that the Ötztaler Cycle Marathon stands for – passion, joy and the pursuit of top performance. Since its founding in 1974, the US company has repeatedly set new standards in cycling and inspires professionals and amateur cyclists alike. It is a really great honor to welcome Specialized as the main sponsor of the Ötztaler Cycle Marathon 2025,” Kuen concludes.
