40m High Sky Ladder Opens in Austria

STORY BY Patrick 18th August 2017

A new 40m long ladder has been created on a famous climbing route at Gosau in Salzburgerland, Austria.

The new ‘Sky Ladder’, which is located on the Zwieselalm in the DachsteinWest region, begins at a point that is already 700 metres above the ground, so climbers need a strong head for heights.

It has been created by Heli Putz, the same man who created the original climbing route, which is rated class C for difficulty and is 1,000 metres long in total, 15 years ago.

“It is a challenge for the mind,” Putz told local media, “But from a climbing point of view, it is actually one of the easier parts of the climb.”

The later, installed in just one day by Putz and three helpers, and incorporating special safety anchors to secure the ladder at altitude, is already proving very popular.

Along with the adrenaline rush, climbers are assured great views over the Gosau lake below and a view to the Großglockner on clear weather days.
