7 in 10 people’s wellbeing and mental health declining during the pandemic according to research and so the need for a New Year pick-me-up has never been more important.

Physical activity and being in the outdoors has a huge potential to enhance our wellbeing; it reduces stress and anxiety and plays a vital role in preventing the development of mental health problems.

Those looking to take on a new physical challenge in 2021 have a number of options from the National Outdoor Centre Plas y Brenin in wales to choose from.

These include an intensive two-day winter skills course in spectacular Snowdonia scenery or, for those who want to consider a full change career or want to take some time out to reset, the Fast Track Adventure Pro – a four-month intensive course of climbing, hiking, paddling and biking courses which begins in January 2021. Once the world-class training has been completed, it can open up a plethora of outdoor careers.

“If you love the outdoors, adventure and learning, this course is the opportunity to change or develop your career as an outdoor instructor or just invest some time in your own personal development,” said a spokesperson from Plas y Brenin.

On the Welsh Winter Skills course you’ll gain confidence with a wide range of winter specific mountaineering concerns, including how to choose and use winter equipment, basic winter navigation, and safety. Our friendly, highly experienced instructors will make sure that you have covered what you need to know to make navigating winter landscapes safer for you, leaving you to explore the countryside with greater freedom year-round.
