STORY BY Patrick 30th June 2017

Entries are open for the 2017 Ridgeway Challenge, one of the world’s great trail runs that follows  a 5000 year old track way through the Chiltern Hills on an 86 mile route with racers running day and night.

The Ridgeway Challenge route takes in 1929m (6328 feet) of ascent and 1991m (6532 feet) of descent and hosts the UK Ultra Distance Trail Running Championships.

This summer’s Fourteenth Ridgeway Challenge will take place on Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th August 2017.

The race is a fully supported continuous running event that starts at Ivinghoe Beacon near Tring and ends at Avebury Stone Circle taking in The Ridgeway National Trail and North Wessex Downs (along Grim’s Ditch for several miles), Barbury Castle and Liddington Castle (hill forts) en route.

There are two start times to allow for mixed abilities.  10am for runners who are not competing in the UK Ultra Distance Trail Running Championships, they are competing to finish only, then noon for those competing in the UK Ultra Distance Trail Running Championships.
