Holiday in a Camper Van This Summer

STORY BY Debbie 24th March 2021

With RV* travel becoming increasingly popular, here is a selection of campsites which welcome campervans and motorhomes, providing the ideal base for exploring the UK once lockdown eases.

North Norfolk

Located on North Norfolk’s alluring coastline, boasting six Blue Flag beaches, Forest Park is an award-winning holiday park close to the seaside town of Cromer – famous for not only its vintage pier and theatre but also for Cromer crab – a delicious and very easy meal, perfect with a glass or two of English wine!  Set in 100 acres, Forest Park is an ideal spot for couples, families, and dog owners – various hilltop viewing points within the grounds providing far-reaching views, and Overstrand’s beach and village are within walking distance. Facilities include a shop, clubhouse, café (high season only) and a heated indoor swimming pool.

Claire’s Campervan is a four-berth campervan based in Bedfordshire. Prices from £590 for seven days, including breakdown cover (RAC) and a 200 km daily allowance.

Pembrokeshire

Creampots Touring Caravan & Camping Park – formerly a dairy farm, Creampots offers 61 pitches for caravans, motorhomes and campervans. Spotless facilities include a laundry room and free showers, and the site is close to Broad Haven’s sandy beaches. Nearby, explore Pembrokeshire’s many gems – including the National Trust’s Stackpole Estate, the beach at Barafundle Bay, Pembroke Castle (the birthplace of Henry VII) – or why not book a boat trip to visit the puffins on Skomer Island?

Jackie’s Low-Profile Motorhome is a four-berth motorhome based in Bristol. Prices from £852 for seven days, including breakdown cover (RAC) and a 100 km daily allowance.

Dorset countryside

Whilst Dorset is well known for its stunning Jurassic coastline, heading inland means discovering bucolic countryside and chocolate-box thatched cottages. Set in an area of outstanding natural beauty in Cranborne Chase is Church Farm, a family-run campsite perfect for motorhomes as well as tents and caravans. Located just 300m from the village of Sixpenny Handley, the campsite is set on an arable farm close to the village shops. Further afield, explore prehistoric Stonehenge and the cathedral city of Salisbury.

Richard’s Coachbuilt Motorhome is a six-berth motorhome based in Wiltshire. Prices from £1,343 for seven days, including breakdown cover (RAC) and a 100 km daily allowance.

North Yorkshire Moors

Set in the heart of the North Yorkshire Moors, Rosedale Abbey Caravan Park is located in Rosedale Abbey village, where once a Cistercian Priory stood. The caravan park has 70 motorvan pitches with electric hook-ups, plus showers, a launderette and a children’s play area. In August, the village holds The Rosedale Show (21st August 2021), one of the oldest agricultural shows in North Yorkshire, with livestock, vintage tractors, a gymkhana, outdoor sculptures and terrier races. Wonderful walks abound in the local area, and the village offers plentiful good pubs and tearooms.

Dean’s Converted Van is a vintage four-berth VW campervan based in Lancashire. Prices from £699 for seven days, including breakdown cover (RAC) and a 200 km daily allowance.

Scotland

Located in SW Scotland and benefiting from a Gulf Stream-induced microclimate, Drumlochart Holiday Park – near Stranraer, in Dumfries & Galloway – has its own fishing loch and an outdoor swimming pool. Local activities include horse riding, kitesurfing, golf and climbing to the top of the Mull of Galloway Lighthouse for sensational views across Scotland’s most southerly point.
