A study of the world’s forest currently getting the most hashtags has found that Sherwood Forest in Nottinghamshire gets the most hashtags in the UK with 144,821.
That’s a little over a quarter the total for the world’s most Instagrammed forest, the Sequoia National Forest in California, USA (pictured top, credit Bjul / Shutterstock), famed for its giant redwoods, with 540,291 hashtags.
Sherwood is famous for its legendary association with Robin Hood and attracts nearly 350,000 visitors per year. The vast Sequoia National Forest cover 1,193,315 acres – the equivalent to 678,019 football (soccer) pitches! Sequoia Forest also contains over 2,500 miles (4,000 km) of road and 850 miles (1,370 km) of trails.
The research was carried out by OnBuy’s Garden Furniture Department to coincide with World Earth Day.
The top 20 (below) also includes other forests in Europe and North America as well as in South America, Africa, Australia and Asia.

In second position is Olympic National Forest in Washington (United States) with 494,713 hashtags. The forest has the credential of having over 3,000 miles of rivers/streams and home to approximately 300 bird species.
Amazon Rainforest is in third place as the Latin American wonder has 230,348 hashtags on Instagram. The Amazon rainforest is estimated to have 16,000 tree species and is home to 2.5 million insect species.
The only forest in the British Isles to make the top 20 was the Trossachs National Park in Stirling, Scotland with 11,475 hashtags in 17th place.
Other famous woodland in the UK such as the New Forest apparently don’t get so many hashtags.
