The OMM or “Original Mountain Marathon” is a famous trail–running event which originally started 50 years ago in England.
Now, however, there is also an OMM in the Alps and after two successful stagings of the contest in Austria at Achensee and at Garmisch-Partenkirchen in Germany, this year’s Alpine OMM is coming to the Swiss Alps and the resort of Lenzerheide.
The OMM is an individual challenge for a team of two mountain runners. With the help of a map and a compass, the teams choose their route to the overnight camp and collect points en route.
Competitors can tackle different levels of difficulty with distances of between 20 and 80 km to complete over the two days.
Racers take everything they need with them for the two days, spending the night in the middle of the race camping under the stars.
The first–ever Swiss OMM will take place from 31 August to 1 September 2019.
