Val d’Isère, that grand old dame of Alpine skiing, has been busy shaking off her winter coat. And what she’s revealing underneath is something quite unexpected: a serene, summer-ready retreat that trades piste-bashing for Qi Gong, and après-ski for enzyme detoxes.
We’ve known for years that this French icon has year-round appeal—gorgeous trails, towering peaks, and a scenery that doesn’t know how to take a bad photo. But in 2025, Val is taking things a step further. Now it’s not just the body that gets a workout here—it’s the mind and spirit too.
Wellness travel has become a bit of a buzzword lately, but Val d’Isère is managing to sidestep the cliché. Rather than build something artificial, it’s letting its natural assets do the heavy lifting. Mountain air, peace, and a proper sense of space—plus a few cutting-edge treatments thrown in for good measure.
For those keen to do more than just sip herbal tea and stare at waterfalls (though both are recommended), the Val Pass is a good starting point. It’s a multi-access ticket that gets you into over 25 summer activities, including the aqua centre, mountain sports park, and the bike park—gear included.
Prices are straightforward: €32 for a day, €99 for six, or €310 for the whole season. That’s quite a lot of mountain for your money.

Let’s be clear—wellness in Val d’Isère isn’t just someone renting out a yurt in a meadow and calling it a retreat. These are high-spec, high-altitude wellness experiences with proper Alpine flair.
Le Refuge de Solaise, for instance, sits at a dizzying 2,551 metres. You reach it by gondola, and once you’re up there, the world just sort of…drops away. There’s a Nordic bath steaming against the mountain wind, a semi-Olympic pool, hammam, and a sauna that might just change your relationship with heat entirely.
Their big new launch this summer is the Shenkosha Retreat, which takes a blend of Chinese and Indian medical traditions and puts them through the filter of modern science. It’s serious stuff: enzyme-based detox meals, Qi Gong sessions, coaching workshops. It’s led by Yoan Maillot and Hannaa Ingar—names you’ll want to remember if you’re serious about shaking off the city.
Further down the valley, Hôtel Le Blizzard is doing things with a bit more classic Alpine flair. Their Clarins spa is everything you’d expect—facials, massages, steam rooms—and the outdoor pool has one of the best views in town. There’s also daily yoga and Pilates, in case stretching against the sunrise is your idea of a good morning.

Of course, no Alpine escape is complete without a proper stomp in the hills, and Val’s trails deliver. From gentle meanders to calf-busting climbs, there’s a route for every level of ambition. A highlight this year is the Grand Paradis Vanoise Nature Trek—a cross-border ramble that starts in France and wanders into Italy. It’s old-school travel, full of waterfalls, gorges, marmots, and quiet little hamlets that smell of woodsmoke and wild thyme.
For those who want to understand what they’re walking through, local guide Franck Bortolotti leads themed hikes focused on everything from wild plants to mindfulness. He even runs an eco hike on Sundays, where you can learn a bit about conservation and do your bit to keep the landscape pristine.
Wellness isn’t about excess. Not here, anyway. In Val d’Isère, the real magic comes from the simplicity of it all: a lungful of cold morning air, the crunch of gravel underfoot, the sight of clouds curling around jagged peaks. It’s about feeling small in a good way.
Yes, there are five-star spas and detox menus and panoramic pools, but it’s the stillness of the mountains that sticks with you. The kind of quiet you didn’t know you needed.
So, is Val d’Isère becoming the new go-to for Alpine wellness? Quietly, yes. But it’s doing it its own way—no loud branding, no forced narrative. Just a resort that knows its value and is happy to share it with those ready to unplug, stretch out, and maybe find something they didn’t know they were missing.
This summer, if you’re looking for a different kind of luxury—one where you come back lighter, clearer, maybe a little more awake—then Val’s your place.
And you won’t even miss the snow.
