Why Saint-Gervais Mont Blanc Should Be on Your Summer 2025 Travel List

STORY BY Debbie 29th April 2025

This summer, the Alpine gem of Saint-Gervais Mont Blanc is offering more than just panoramic views and crisp mountain air. Nestled beneath Europe’s highest peak, the resort town is unveiling a thrilling summer programme that blends adrenaline-pumping mountaineering, cultural celebrations, cutting-edge art, and sustainable travel — all in one awe-inspiring destination.

Summit Dreams & Mountaineering Mastery

At the heart of the summer experience lies the legendary “Voie Royale”, the classic route up Mont Blanc (4,807m). This storied path is supported by two high-altitude refuges — Goûter and Tête Rousse — offering climbers a chance to test their mettle and take in unmatched views from France’s highest guarded huts.

For those looking to ease into alpine climbing, the Compagnie des Guides is offering 4-day introductory mountaineering courses, ending with the ascent of a nearby summit. Rock, ice, and unforgettable memories are all on the itinerary.

100 Years in the Clouds: Mont Joly Turns a Century

History buffs and lovers of rustic charm won’t want to miss the centenary celebration of the Mont Joly refuge on August 16, 2025. Originally built in 1858 and rebuilt after a lightning strike in 1925, this once-highest restaurant in the region now serves up not only Alpine fare but also mountain heritage at 2,002m.

Thrills on Two Wheels: A New MTB Adventure

If your heart races for trails, gear up for Saint-Gervais’ new red-level mountain biking trail, snaking from Le Bettex to Le Fayet over 7.29km with an altitude drop of 856m. With the newly connected Le Valléen lift and L’Alpin gondola, bikers can access the trailhead with ease — bikes welcome.

Vertical Vibes: Roc Fest Debuts

Saint-Gervais launches its first-ever Roc Fest, a three-day celebration of vertical sports running from June 7–9, 2025. Expect point-based climbing competitions (both indoors and out), expert-led workshops, film screenings, and mountain-inspired concerts. Ahead of the event, five local climbing sites have been cleaned, re-equipped, and primed for action thanks to a joint effort by the local council, the AUME climbing club, and the Compagnie des Guides.

Art at Altitude: The Return of Artocène

Back for its fourth edition, Artocène (June 28–September 14) turns the Mont Blanc slopes into an open-air gallery. Contemporary works will be exhibited from 580m to 1,800m, exploring themes of environment and social change. Among the highlights: Hugo Servanin’s cryogenically-enhanced giant sculptures, fusing ancient molds with futuristic techniques — a must-see at Pile Pont Expo.

Getting Around Green

Sustainability takes centre stage as Saint-Gervais continues to roll out its eco-friendly transport options. The Valléen lift whisks passengers (with bikes or luggage) from Le Fayet’s TGV station to the heart of town in just 5 minutes. After a day outdoors, hop on the wastewater-powered “L’Ascenseur des Thermes” elevator to float straight into the rejuvenating thermal spa.
