Escape the city and head to a different type of outdoor cinema this year. The Knottnkino Natural Theatre in South Tyrol is an invitation to disconnect and get back to nature. Located between the villages of Avelengo and Verano, 30 cinema seats designed by artist Franz Messner are positioned for hikers to sit, reflect and enjoy the changing views of the valley below.
Nature prescribing is becoming more prevalent, as discussed by the Global Wellness Summit: ‘Nature Deficit Disorder has taken hold, and it’s real—this 24/7, digitally dominated, Instagram-able world is depriving humankind of some very basic, very important nourishment that comes from being outdoors… the resulting dissociation from our natural surroundings leaves us emotionally and physically worse off.’
Base yourself at San Luis, an oasis of calm located just 25 minutes from the ‘Knottnkino’ outdoor cinema. The 22 lakeside chalets and 17 single or double-storey treehouses are set around a natural lake, each with their own sauna and many with private hot tubs. The glass walls and high ceilings create a feeling of complete immersion in the surrounding nature.
