Summer sneaks into the Alps with little fanfare—but once it’s here, it’s hard to ignore. On July 5th, Arc 1950, the youngest of the Les Arcs resorts, opened its pastel-shuttered doors to welcome eight weeks of sunshine, mountain air, and a refreshingly active take on the high-altitude holiday.
Tucked beneath the watchful eye of Mont Blanc, Arc 1950 isn’t your average purpose-built ski village. With its cobbled squares, timber balconies, and classic Savoie styling, it blends Alpine charm with just enough polish to feel properly luxurious. And in summer, that charm comes alive in a different way—less après-ski, more al fresco espresso.
One of the most delightful traditions in Arc 1950’s summer lineup is its weekly “Mercredi d’Arc 1950” events—Wednesday family days packed with themed activities, shows, and hands-on fun. These aren’t your average tourist workshops either. Each week introduces a new theme, transforming the village into a bustling playground of creativity and connection.
From face-painting and street theatre to climbing walls and craft corners, the vibe is all about participation. It’s good-natured, free of charge for those staying in the village, and manages that rare trick of keeping both kids and adults engaged. A gentle, feel-good centrepiece to the week.
The newest addition to the calendar this summer arrives on 4 August, and it’s a big one—literally cosmic. An Evening Under the Stars brings an astrophysicist to the village for a guided journey through the night sky, using a high-definition telescope to explore planets, craters, and constellations in real-time.
What makes it extra special? The telescope’s view is broadcast live onto a big screen so everyone can share the same cosmic moment—without queuing up for a peek through the lens. It’s a stargazing experience that turns a quiet mountain evening into a shared sense of awe.
Arc 1950 has always been popular with active holidaymakers, and now it’s attracting some of the best in the business. The resort has just inked a three-year deal to host the Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale cycling team, who’ll use the village as their summer base for altitude training.
These aren’t just any riders—some of them will be competing in the Tour de France, making their presence in Arc 1950 both exciting and inspiring. Guests might spot a few pros out on the roads or recovering post-ride in the village—another quiet reminder that you’re in the right place for serious summer mountain living.
Of course, Arc 1950 isn’t all events and elite athletes. It’s the kind of place that lets you set your own pace. Want to hike a ridge before breakfast and chill in the pool by lunch? Done. Prefer morning yoga and an afternoon browsing village boutiques? Also sorted. The surrounding landscape offers everything from forest trails to high mountain hikes, and the village is compact enough to feel like home within a day.
The key here is balance. There’s plenty to do, but no pressure to do it all. It’s an Alpine summer in its most relaxed form—light on stress, high on views.
There’s something deeply satisfying about seeing a resort like Arc 1950 in full summer bloom. It’s familiar, yet fresh; peaceful, but not sleepy. With a well-paced events calendar, exceptional scenery, and an easy, open feel, it’s carving out a niche as one of the Alps’ most appealing summer bases.
So if you’ve only known Les Arcs in ski season, now’s your moment. Head up, slow down, and let Arc 1950 show you what the mountains feel like in full colour.
