A new trip from World Expeditions allows you to take in the second biggest wildebeest migration in Africa, at the remote Liuwa Plains in Zambia. This lesser known National Park only sees a limited number of visitors each year and offers a spectacular setting in which to experience this amazing event. The itinerary launches in November and is set to run only once a year.
The ‘Great Migration’ is one of the most magical times to visit Africa – but if you feel that the Serengeti and Masai Mara are becoming too popular and crowded, World Expeditions has just announced a brand new trip that takes in the second biggest wildebeest migration on the continent, at the lesser known Liuwa Plains National Park in Zambia.
Every year, from late October and for the next few weeks, thousands of blue wildebeest can be seen travelling from the Cameia National Park in Angola to the Liuwa Plain National Park in western Zambia in search of palatable grass.
As the dry season comes to an end and the rain brings the Liuwa Plains back to life, more than 40,000 animals make this journey, many along with their new-born calves. The herds are often seen followed by packs of hyenas – the National Park offers some of the best hyena sightings in the whole of Africa – waiting to prey on any weak or young victims.
Gordon Steer, UK Manager for World Expeditions, said:
“Little known and remote, the Liuwa Plain National Park in Zambia offers to the wildlife enthusiast a far more intimate ‘migration’ experience: until a few years ago, it would only receive a few hundred visitors each year. Although tourism is slowly on the rise, travellers on this new trip will be treated to a more authentic – and just as spellbinding – experience”.
Since its inception in 1975 World Expeditions has earned itself an outstanding reputation as a world leader in small group adventure holidays and cultural journeys. The new Zambia Liuwa Plains Migration Safari trip will only run once a year, with the inaugural departure taking place on 10 November.
NEW FOR 2018 – Launches 10 November 2018
14 days, from £2,290 per person; international flights extra
Further highlights of the trip include admiring the huge herds of elephants in Chobe National Park, enjoying a sunset cruise on the Chobe River, swimming in the mighty Zambezi River and exploring the little known Sioma Falls, with free time set aside to visit the magnificent Victoria Falls, at the end of the trip.
In addition to the new trip, World Expeditions already offers a dedicated Kenya & Tanzania Migration Safari, which has been one of its most iconic and popular Africa trips for years.
